My example of Postmodernism through artwork was done on four canvases. The reason why I chose to do one piece on four canvases is because it is common to see a piece done on multiple faces, as if it were split, in Postmodern rooms. It is simply different from your "normal" piece of art. I used silver spraypaint as the base color, and used letters as stencils to spell out the word "FREE" across the canvases. For the abstract effect, there is different colors of splattered paint across the canvases. I chose this word because it is a contrast to the birds, which are going around the letters. The birds are newspaper cut-outs of headlines, and titles, and even articles. The purpose of the newspaper cut-outs is to send the pessimistic messages of the problems our world has today. I believe that overall, my project shows both a pessimistic and optimistic message. Being "FREE" is the overall message, and the doves flying with the negative issues shows this.

Day Without A Gay
December 10, 2008 is "Day Without a Gay". Basically, here's the statement of what it is...
"Gays, lesbians, and straight allies plan to call in “gay” to volunteer within their local LGBT communities on December 10, 2008 to protest passage of anti-gay constitutional amendments in Arizona, Florida, and California. Wherever possible, gay Americans and allies plan to volunteer for local gay and civil rights organizations across the country through a brand new national database at www.daywithoutagay.wetpaint.org.
Every day since Election Day, thousands have protested up and down streets in cities across California, including in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco and Sacramento. A national, grassroots coalition of LGBT activists have followed in their footsteps. Now gay citizens and their allies are teaming up to show America and the world the compassion, the love, and the posititve spirit of the gay community through service.
On December 10, 2008 the gay community will take a historic stance against hatred by donating their time to a variety of different causes in order to raise public awareness of the need for LGBT equality in marriage and in other civil rights."
Gay people in California, Arizona, and Florida are all involved in this event. Gay people of these three states will call in to work, not buy products, not go to class, etc, to show the communities what it would be like without gays. On this day, gays will not just be sitting at home and sleeping in. It's not for that purpose. Gay activists go to local LGBT protests on this day and show awareness for their rights and equality. Although not every gay person is able to participate in this event, considering everyone has different stuff they need to do, but hopefully this event will still help prove awareness to people across the nation.

Controversial Issues - Obama vs. McCain
Barack Obama is Pro Choice. He strongly supports women's rights and decisions for their own bodies. "A women's ability to decide how many children and when, without interference from the government, is one of the most fundamental rights we possess. It is not just an issue of choice, but equality and opportunity for all women." He is a strong supporter of the Roe v. Wade decision.
John McCain is Pro Life. He is anti-abortion, and believes that they should only be legal when the pregnancy is proven to be from rape, incest, or when the mother's life is endangered. He does not support the Roe v. Wade decision, and believes that it should be overturned. When asked what would happen if his own daughter got pregnant, he states, "The final decision would be made by Meghan with our advice and counsel", but then later states it would be a "family decision, not her decision".
Marijuana
Barack Obama believes has admitted to using marijuana in his past. He is open to marijuana being used in a medicinal way, to relieve pain and suffering. He wants to stop medical marijuana raids in 12 states that allow medical marijuana use. He believes there is no difference between morphine and marijuana, as long as it gives relief from pain.
John McCain opposes to legalizing marijuana. He opposes to the use of marijuana for medical purposes, and supports the federal raids. He believes that marijuana is a "gateway" drug, and leads to use of harder drugs. He also supports the death penalty for drug "kingpins".
Same-sex Marriage
Barack Obama believes in gay equality. He is a supporter of civil unions, but not same-sex marriage. He does believe that the issue should be decided within states.
John McCain supports same sex civil unions, but not marriage. He also believes this issue should be decided within states.
